The latest farside map looks like this:

The orange region (Corresponding to FS_2024_002) currently has a strength of 14977... what does this "strength" number mean?

it s a "sunspot group size" according to the AI. wrong in 99.9% chance, in your case it just gathered all the spots together and claimed it as 1 region. also 1 region cant be in both hemispheres as i know. and if i were you i wouldn’t trust farside mapa so much because they always considera plage as an active region but there are some true info about sunspots in them

Here is a crop of the latest photospheric map showing individual fields. East limb is currently around 30 degrees, so we could see a few good ARs over the next few days.

Since this is incoming regions, take a look at Northern Hemisphere.  It appears as though we have at least three filament loops just hanging above the surface, ready to be slung our way.  Haha.

One has slung, probably not our way.

Yeah. They may be supports for a 100,000 meter rhombic antenna.

Yep. Assuming you meant the closest one to us. Not there in latest 193 pic   The spray is visible in 131 kinda cool. Also the two original points of surface connection   Solar ham posted a prominence eruption from this a bit ago I was just informed.

well i guess both incoming regions are plage

Yea... I was really hoping for more since the limb was so bright 😔
I guess we will have a new period with rather low activity. I hope the regions that looks to be behind the limb still can bring som action.

Yes, I hope so too!

We have a couple of regions 'knocking on the door'

Jay-B, how do you get those images? Thanks!

I only know of GONG and Stanford Helioseismology for far side imagery.

I was about to joke about you sending pics from your private observatory on Mars or Venus or ... and I actually realise those must be from Mars Rover? Haha

Haha they are. Perseverance.

Note the other topic about farside photos from Perseverance. 😁

Edit: forgot to add the link with the original photos from Mars Rover.

There is a big area that is going to be turning into view later this week!

image.jpeg.d33b582af079dc1faf962ae9c82b1623.jpeg

The problem is those might not be incoming. They might have been what went over the western limb for us as we don't know what is the north or south pole of the Sun in the image.

...........

I guess technically though, anything over the western limb and not yet over the eastern limb would be incoming

............

And after doing a little bit more searching, they actually do look like something that will come over the eastern limb within a week. Both circled areas look to be southern disk regions.

CME from farside flare has been modeled. seems it was not from the incoming region, but from somewhere else, pretty dense and really fast (40 hours to L1) CME. seems we are going to have lots of fireworks this month
