The return of a banger: AR2992

Recommended Posts

Hello guys, this time I didn't get this from spaceweather.com. But I have done it myself. So AR2992 which is seen here when you go to the farside:  https://www.raben.com/maps/date/. This website is not very accurate for strength i would say but it does say it is here. They are fairly accurate for position. Also if you look on here: http://jsoc.stanford.edu/data/farside/ (the yellow one) it seems to be the right location for AR2992. So if it is, then this explains all the farside CME's that have been happening for the last 3 days. Anyways if this is AR2992, we will see what it does when it comes around the limb or if it survives...

But this as well could be nothing but faculae

Can you show evidence that the CME’s are from this region?

There have been indeed numerous cmes exploding from the farside region,

From this video

, quite interesting activity to see, let's await when these regions turn to the earthside

Are the CME's good?

Also I dont want to ruin the party.. but I dont think all of those CME's in the Video are farside events, please correct me if I'm wrong though.

We also had 2996 pop alot of little CME's and prominence eruptions.

To be fair, I saw some NE CMEs too, there seems to be more than one active farside region

But no imagery (Gong, Heliosysmisity) points to more than one Active Farside Region. Maybe you saw those eruptions? https://twitter.com/spacewxwatch/status/1519392678705782784?t=NuHwfLtV0WrdT0BsOCKpig&s=19

( i also counted 3 rather big (id say) prominence eruptions on the limbs in the last 3 days)

I'm with you on this one, majority of the eruptions in that sequence are the limb eruptions we've seen on SUVI/SDO etc and not really farside events, although there are some.

Man this region better be good.

Unlike last time....

To be fair, we only saw that region when it was close to the west limb. Even so, it did appear to be growing in area as it disappeared.

In the brief time it was visible it produced 3 M flares, so it was not that bad.

Guys to be honest, there is nothing else on the farisde that would indicate another region... http://jsoc.stanford.edu/data/farside/Recent/AR_Map.png

And this strength which is i supposed 'size' is 1758 which it has very much increased in the last 34 hours.

But it already decreased again. It was at 2000 yesterday.

I just saw the Video and thought it maybe is getting more active with cmes. @Orneno did you maybe follow lasco for farside cmes from this region? 💕

It went from 1650 to 2230 in half a day.. why do you think its weakening?

http://jsoc.stanford.edu/data/farside/AR_Lists/AR_LIST_2022.04.30_12:00:00.txt  <- this is the newest

http://jsoc.stanford.edu/data/farside/AR_Lists/AR_LIST_2022.04.30_00:00:00.txt <- this is the one before that

also here on gong / stereo a farside imagery:

(the top one being newer)

old d6ddf9f15e49fb7da28d1157b8715b63.png

so its clearly growing?

but i have to add that it jumped from 2000 to 1300 back and forth over the last few days.

gong also apparently thinks its 2 regions now?

new: e1d70516152891d66ef625d8b522c004.png

but i dont know much about those gong calibrated farside maps and their accuracy.

Hmm, all the CMEs that could be from this region are in the first half of the last 48 hours vid, I’m afraid it appears to have calmed down since then, I did not see any CME from it after that that flurry yesterday.

One potentially interesting thing is there were a couple nice CMEs from the northern hemisphere, definitely not 2992, but something.

May I remind everybody that a small sunspot can grow into an X10 flare candidate in only 2 days. See the sunspot in September 2017…
