These farside images can often be misleading. Yes it looks huge, but you can tell nothing about the actual configuration.

We know from the Photospheric field map (below) that there is a large positive field area on the trailing edge of what was AR3354, but it was relatively weak compared to the two fields associated with 3354. Of course it may have grown in strength, but at this time we do not know.

As a further example, consider the yellow patch in the southern hemisphere, just below AR3354. It appears to be growing, but if we check the photospheric map we can see that it is (was) just a negative field area with potential for nothing more than an Alpha spot.

In essence, size has little significance, especially in these farside maps.

same sunspot in north and south?

No. As I have been trying to tell you, the image does not represent a particular sunspot but instead is just an area of higher magnetic field strength. It does not differentiate between positive and negative fields. If the threshold for the measurement changes slightly it will include a larger area. If you look at the WSO plot in my post from Friday (at top of this page) you will see that it has now included the larger area of negative field, which does go into the southern hemisphere.

But tiny compared to the jsoc version ! We have to wait another 4 or 5 days until it appears on the limb, then we see reality.

Yeah, at least the imagery from both sources seems to indicate that there's definitely still activity there, so looking forward to seeing what it looks like in a few days, hopefully it hasn't faded by then.

Reality always trumps speculations…

Speculations without proven solid theories are only useful or catastrophic when playin Poker

Just sayin’ ……

One interesting thing is that the region(s) producing major events on the far side isn't showing up much at all in any of those images.

What location would you estimate for those events?

We had AR3360 at C66 / 23 but that was small area, then AR3361 was at C40 /24 with larger area. There is something showing in that region on the latest jsoc image - fairly small at present, probably due to limb effect.
