SFI at 208!

When was the last time we were over 200?

Going by the 20:00 values, technically 2023-11-28, but I'm pretty sure that was due to a big flare.

Last time before that was 2023-07-18, with an observed flux of 218.5 and adjusted flux of 225.7. Haven't checked if that was from any flaring though, and I guess it gets tricky if one is to discount various levels of C-flaring that happen frequently and often continuously near and after maximum. Before that was 2023-07-13, not long before, at 202.9 observed and 209.7 adjusted. Here are all the dates in SC25 with either observed or adjusted flux above 200, with no regards to whether flaring was occurring or not:

Quote
['20220331', '0239.5', '0239.0']
['20220828', '0251.9', '0257.0']
['20230112', '0211.6', '0204.7']
['20230113', '0208.5', '0201.7']
['20230114', '0227.8', '0220.4']
['20230115', '0234.3', '0226.7']
['20230116', '0228.1', '0220.7']
['20230117', '0221.7', '0214.6']
['20230118', '0220.3', '0213.2']
['20230119', '0226.1', '0218.9']
['20230120', '0217.5', '0210.6']
['20230121', '0208.7', '0202.1']
['20230209', '0214.9', '0209.1']
['20230210', '0207.8', '0202.3']
['20230211', '0209.5', '0204.1']
['20230217', '0343.1', '0335.0']
['20230225', '0279.3', '0273.7']
['20230711', '0213.5', '0220.6']
['20230713', '0202.9', '0209.7']
['20230718', '0218.5', '0225.7']
['20231128', '0254.6', '0247.8']
['20240212', '0208.3', '0203.0']

Observed on the left, adjusted on the right. Apparently no dates where either observed or adjusted was under 200 while the other was over it.

I think they were referring to the incoming northern region we were discussing previously, but I guess the context got lost. But wow, that is beautiful:

  • Beautiful big eruption on the farside. I wonder what region it might be. Very exciting 😍

Been awhile.  @Miles We did crack it unofficially a few weeks ago however at the last NRC posting.  Things are only going to continue to improve as we approach solar max.  Expect dips below 150 occasionally. No biggie. Hopefully the link below works for you.  Us radio amateurs use the far left column which is observed flux at ground level. NRC canada checks three times daily and usually uses local noon or 20:00 utc figures as they did today.  Scroll down until ya see 208. You will also see 211 which was at 22:00 hours.  Have fun!  Mike.

Where are you getting images of the new region? It hasn’t turned the limb yet.

Are we talking about different regions? The one im talking about is barely visible in SDO HMIIC

I am hoping y’all are talking about the massive loop producer on the limb. According to Solar Soft anyway, we probably have at least two nice regions up there.  The loop producer is high latitude estimated at around North 27 degrees.  The lower latitude one around 12-13 degrees and I think seems to be coming in just ahead or just arriving. With all the activity there, we may even have more.

when should we see something from the other region? i cant make out the slightest glimpse of a region turnung in there sadly...

Yeah, I agree unfortunately.  Just looked now.   It seems pretty barren incoming north.  Well, both regions have to arrive sometime.  Haha…… Mike

@hamateur 1953

now i can see something on the limb very high latitude-ish, hopefully this turns in and reveals itself as a nice deltaaic region which shoots off one or the other nice X flare, but i hold my hopes down for the moment beeing

Better to be happily surprised than dismayed?? Haha.  I getcha!!

barely can make out one spot on the limb... hopefully nothing dissappointing

but looks like thats the source of all the loops

Edit: hopefully, that is infact a spot and not an image error, i would be standing dumb here :(

Looks like this is the remnants of AR 3559.

It was going over the limb about Jan. 29th and let off the M6.8 flare

@Solar_Marcel Could it really be that big? Check this one out:

Addition of 1700 angstrom image

in the HMIIC picture there you can see one big spot now, but iu think there is something behind that as well

sadly cant attach the picture for some reason

Well @Solar_Marcel, I hope that the “ lake of plasma” with its associated loops of glory isn’t spent yet.  Honestly, that looong duration M class was staggeringly beautiful to watch in its entirety.
