I wonder how much its occulted?

Also, how can such an uncomplex spot fire like that?

It must have gotten more complex. Remember, when a spot is near the limb, it's hard to see.  It could have been more complex than we thought even before rotating off, and gotten more complex rapidly since then.

Probably near X5.  This was a big one.

Huh interesting.. Did you estimate the X5 or is there some "math" behind it?

Nope, that's a random guess of mine and Flareguy's.

I wish we had a STEREO B with an X-ray instrument

This is wild. There's not usually so many X-classes in this short of a period. Even 2001 and 2003 managed a yearly total of just 21 and 20 respectively.

2022 had 3 of them within one month!

Solar Cycle 25, the overachiever, question mark? 🤞

It looked like this caused a decent disruption in the corona

At least for an incredibly impulsive flare. X-rays are already down to C-class

yeah only like 30-40 minutes to go background-to-background

Wow, the radio emission just now was 1600 km/s, and we're not even remotely in front of the CME

It must have launched a CME of some degree, despite being very short indeed

Woah... I wonder if it'll be like all those farside solar flares during 2012.

Well, this has been an interesting evening 😅

It's been a slow night at work, so I've had some time to work on some writing, but I keep getting distracted by all the flares going on 😂 @Ornenoalready knows all about this lol.

As he previously stated, this X2 event probably was stronger since it was partially eclipsed by the limb. Even if the activity still had to not be Earth directed, I wish this would have happened at least a couple days earlier so we could have a clear view of 2992 in its full form. It's probably super complex now.

I wonder if we’ll get a space radiation storm from this
