What’s the maximum of X-flares you’ve had in one day?

We have 4 days which have had 3 X-class flares in one day.

Was that just from one region or all the regions added up?

Two regions but AR11515 was responsible of 9 M-class solar flares with a maximum of M6.2.

Freaking almost 40 solar flares in a day. WTF

I haven't done an update in a long time...so here it is.

It might be helpful if you could add a trend line to help pick out periods of growth in activity.

The averaged 10.7cm flux has been growing steadily over the last few weeks and is now approaching levels last seen in May or June. I hope that could indicate higher activity fairly soon.

That's a good idea to be honest. I'll see if I can do that. Worst case scenario, I have to use a different website (which is fine)

Actually there is but I’m going to stay out of this..

Magnetic reconnection is what drives massive energy releases from flares. Here is an interesting article about the phenomenon:

https://www.space.com/solar-flares-explode-from-magnetic-reconnection

and another from NASA

https://www.nasa.gov/content/goddard/science-of-magnetic-reconnection

The Wikipedia article is also pretty informative.

Good reading. Enjoy!

Hi SFT,

I didn't know you had this project going - very cool, I am impressed.

Ate you collecting any other data, I.e, magnitude?

in any case, way cool! Thanks for sharing !

Hi, sorry for the late response, I am only collecting how many solar flares happen. Not magnitude or anything. That's all!

Well, here is the latest graph on the solar flares*

*1/10/23 was when this was last updated

Also @3gMike I could not find anything to add a trend line. What I will have to do is transfer this data over to another graph and add the line in.
