Sam Warfel
Would the C5 flare we just had be considered long-duration? It is decaying slowly, but not thaaat slow. I'm not sure how slow it needs to be to be considered long-duration.
Solarflaretracker200
Well it did develop suddenly and rapidly. If it lasts more then 20 minutes I think it will be considered a long duration. it’s rising again so it probably will be long duration. I think I’m wrong about this…

Solarflaretracker200
I bet it’s AR 2907
Christopher S.
Actually 2917 and 2907 both had something at almost the same time. 2906 flared a few hours ago. Here: https://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/aiahmi/ back to back, and both are still quite bright/energetic. I believe that 2917 is growing at the rate we wanted 2916 to grow at lol Edited December 24, 2021 by Christopher S.

I expected it to be AR 2907 because it has a 99% chance of c class solar flare. But that’s pretty cool that 2917 and 2906 did something at almost the same time. Flareguy18
I'd call the flare duration about average. Not impulsive, but not long duration either. Good to see more elevated activity after a bunch of those very low level C-flares. M-flares in the offing??

Flareguy18
Very preliminary imagery is coming in from LASCO and it looks like the latest C5 flare (just after 12 UTC) produced a CME! Signature beginning to show up. (Pardon the sloppy tracing lol)

To see CME’s we always use the different images to get a more clear look on CME distribution and the CME here was a narrow one:

Kinda seemed like some of the material was spreading further out but perhaps not. Where do you find this particular type of imagery?

Difference images can be found in our image section or on the SOHO website.
