Vancanneyt Sander
We’ve released a hot fix update for the Android app (has the same app version 1.5.1) for our subscription users (ad-free app - in-app payment). It fixes an issue that during startup an ad could be shown for a a second and then disappears even though the subscription is active. The update fixes this issue so that users with an active subscription won’t see any ads, everyone else still gets ads. Only subscription users are affected by the bug, so we advice our subscription users to update.

Vancanneyt Sander
App version 1.6.0 was released for Android and iOS Android 13 compatibility Fix for iPhone 14 Android: We'll now ask permission before sending space weather alerts (new screen about 5-10 seconds after opening the app). Previously every new install on Android was automatically subscribed, but due to recent changes in Android 13 we now have to ask for your permission before sending any alerts Existing users that are already subscribed won't be asked for permission again with this update, it is still possible to disable them in the app settings iOS: New users are not immediately bombarded for push notification permission. About 5-10 seconds after opening you'l get a new screen for enabling them On the page Help -> Push notifications: For users who disabled push notifications on iOS or Android it will show that on the page with a button to the app settings to enable them again if they want to If anyone has issues with the alerts, on the bottom of that page you'll find the unique ID which you can send to us to see we can find where it might have gone wrong. Dusted uff some solar wind particles under the hood
Vancanneyt Sander
Version 1.6.1 has been released for iOS and includes a fix that caused all iOS devices to use dark mode only instead of respecting the system setting. So people with ‘light mode’ got to see the dark mode. Our fix will make sure we respect the system setting. New for our ‘light mode’ users is that the app menu and top bar are also in light mode.
Vancanneyt Sander
Version 1.6.1 is on its way for Android with the following changes/fixes: Fix on auroral oval map page: when swiping down causes a reload Light and dark mode improvements, when using light theme on Android, menu's and navigation will now use a light color mode. Dark mode stays dark as in previous versions 🙂 Message for Android users with Android version lower than 10: Your device does not have the requirements to run native dark mode, due to the restrictions of this old OS the menu's wil be in light mode (standard mode). The old (and deprecated) dark mode for the content itself is still somewhat supported but will be removed in a later update as we switch to complete native dark mode. Android 9 has reached end of life status by Google and thus we won't be able to support the older Android versions.
Vancanneyt Sander
We've updated all Kp graphs and badges on the site/app to adapt to the G-scale coloring. Previously the Kp graphs only had three colors: Kp 0->3 green, Kp4 yellow, Kp 5->9 red. New coloring scheme is changing for active conditions (still green) and from G1/Kp5 it will range from yellow to red per G-scale. 1

Vancanneyt Sander
We've been busy all day with some major work behind the scenes, as a result of that data wasn't always updated or a page was broke. So we apologies if you had issues. We have now finished all our maintenance and refactoring of the code to make sure our codebase is more future proof and more maintainable. If anything isn't working, please don't hesitate to contact us, it can always be that we overlooked something in the forest of scripting language. We'll also monitor our logs to find any hidden errors.
Marcel de Bont
Minor update today on the solar flares page. The solar flare list that showed the events that occurred on the current day will no longer show a list of events that took place today and be wiped clear at midnight UTC. This list will now display all the events of the past 24 hours and older events will fall of the list automatically.

Vancanneyt Sander
As you might notice there has been a few changes on SWL. We’ve introduced a new cookie banner for our European and Californian users (GDPR and CCEP privacy laws). The last few years we’ve seen a significant drop in ad revenue from the site, even though our visitor counts have risen through the roof and our monthly costs keep increasing. Due to that we’ve introduced new ads on the site and forum on new positions that hopefully don’t impact the user experience a lot. We’ve also taken measures for Adblock users. Our site can only remain online thanks to the revenue from advertisements to cover all costs (donations cover only 2% of all the bills we need to pay so we can’t run on that). With increasing visitor counts towards solar max and increasing popularity we needed to take measures so we can keep SWL site online and still free for everyone. Vancanneyt Sander
We’ve made some updates to the dark mode design of SWL. If anything is messed up, let us know so we can fix it ☺️. We’ve tested it thoroughly so there shouldn’t be anything major but we can always overlook something 🙈.
Vancanneyt Sander
On the site we removed the latest alerts from our Twitter feed as Twitter decided to brake the functionality (to view any tweet you'll need to login, but by doing that they broke the embeddable timeline). But as a replacement we'll still show the latest alerts but directly from SWL, it will be updated automatically as well. For our app users also a new feature: Once you get up in the morning and you'll see many notifications that where send during the night, once you open one or when you open the app, the notifications in the Notification Center disappear and you might wanne see what you have missed again when you're better awake. When you tap in the app on the warning icon in the top right you'll now see something extra: besides the current warnings we'll display all of the notifications we've send in the past 48 hours. That way you can review what happened in the past 48 hours. It will also be automatically updated with a few minutes delay between sending an alert and being displayed.
Vancanneyt Sander
Comparing sunspot region imagery for their magnetic complexity will be a lot more easier now, we’ve implemented a neat little comparison tool to easily go back and forth between the HMIIB and HMIIF imagery of the regions. Just click/swipe and slide 😉 Edited October 30, 2023 by Marcel de Bont Added Twitter post 1
Vancanneyt Sander
We're thrilled to release our new update of the SpaceWeatherLive app for Android and iOS! Version 1.7.0 has an exciting feature that was highly requested for the past few years: configure thresholds for alerts! You only want to receive alerts for solar flares stronger than M5? Or you want to receive Kp alerts when Kp reaches 7? Now that will be possible in the new version! You can set thresholds for radio blackouts, solar flares, solar radiation storms, geomagnetic activity and the new hemispheric power alert. With the new release there is a new alert available as well that has been requested: Hemispheric power alert. This alert is disabled by default, but you can configure a threshold that suits for you. For convenience, the help information for push alerts has been moved to a new tab on the push notification configuration screen. We've collected the most frequently asked questions for troubleshooting in that tab. Other changes to the app are in the belly of it to make sure it runs on latest devices and newest Android and iOS versions. For example in our Android app we made changes to support the new Google Play Billing Library.
Popular Post Vancanneyt Sander
A new app version has been released (1.8.0) For iOS and Android users, it provides a required update for the EU-users to make sure consent is given to store cookies and use of information for personalized ads (advertising ID) and statistics (users who have an in-app subscriptions to turn off ads: no information is being used by third parties); this makes our app in line with the EU GDPR guidelines just like on the site. iOS users: Keep in mind if you declined the use of the advertising ID, you already didn't receive personalized ads. We know it takes a bit away from the app experience that you get a popup once every month that asks for consent, but it's required by EU law that we ask for permission... Advertisements keeps SpaceWeatherLive running. If you don't want ads you can support us by going for an in-app subscription to remove the ads at a very low price of only 0,99 per month (depending on country, taxes, exchange rates, ...).

Vancanneyt Sander
Version 1.8.1 of our iOS and Android app has ben released. For Android we dropped support for devices older than Android 7 as these are too old and our graphing system requires more modern APIs to be available for best performance/results. UTC time has been added in the bottom right corner for most of the live pages with graphs.
