Reminder: this thread is for solar activity like flares and CMEs launching from the sunspot.
To discuss the CME's travel or impacts on Earth, please move to this thread in the geomagnetic activity forums.
Thanks!

And there's another X1 just now. Not 100% it's from 3664 but the last couple frames on the SDO movie show it brightening so I believe it is.

The latest image from SDO clearly shows that it comes from this region.

And we've been so well behaved.  No one asserted that the conjunction of the Sun, Jupiter, and Venus was the reason for the high activity from AR3664.  Such restraint deserves a kudos!

This region is amazing. Here's the development from May 4th to today. Stabilized.

Well, do us a favor and stop posting about it here over and over again, especially not using that nonsensical terminology that we all know where originates. We've already addressed it countless times

You should really start using Suvi for this :D  Yes, from this sunspot.

Doesn't look very eruptive. Pretty sure this region is dying down, probably won't be launching anything massive past the limb. It certainly did its job, though.

Once it passes the limb we get a carrington event sized flare and CME, trust me on this one

It's currently producing a decent CME, bunch of loops are lifting slowly

Too far west for earth impact?

Definitely

It looks very westward too from dimmings, I thought maybe a chance for a glance but I’m unsure.. rather not ?

Im confused. Is it not well off the west limb or not o.O

M6.66 flare... should we be afraid of the beast?

Solar Orbiter / STIX will tell us... Now monitoring the far side of the Sun.

Full -halo on LASCO. Nice. It'll be a glancing blow but still a blow.

Are you sure? Can you maybe show?

I don’t know if it’s a full halo I suck. But to me it looks very south west

@mozy do you maybe have a clue?

It's surprisingly wide for the longitude; still wouldn't expect too much though, but we might take another hit indeed.

On an unrelated note, I'd recognize that little star cluster sneaking in to the top left anywhere, time of year checks out as well.

What do you personally expect? Much of a hit/flanking encounter or more? And is it a fast CME

I noticed that cluster too! Can you tell us what it is?:)

Doesn't look like it's very fast but I'll defer to the experts on that.

I don't expect much, indeed more getting grazed, but we'll see. The initial speed is middling, something like 1000 km/s from a quick estimate (probably not entirely right).

It's the asterism Subaru.

Now I'm wondering if that full halo CME was actually 2 simultaneous CMEs. In AIA 131 you can see something launching from 3673 at the same time.
