Popular Post Sam Warfel
I was a guest on a local podcast to talk about the aurora! If anyone cares to listen, I’d be curious to hear any feedback or corrections, on presentation or the aurora facts. Happy chasing! https://the-cabin.simplecast.com/episodes/spotting-wisconsins-northern-lights-ft-sam-warfel-_fck2sZC 7
hamateur 1953
Otter likes as always @Sam Warfel but that was a cool podcast and instructive for the public at large! I especially liked the comparisons of our present abilities to predict Aurora as compared to weather reporting in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Doppler radar was a major step forward in the 1970s. Cool. Well done! 😀 Edited February 27 by hamateur 1953 Smiley
Drax Spacex
Well done - you're a good conversational speaker. You could mention how CMEs and coronal holes and the higher solar wind they generate can be used to predict a few days out that auroras may be possible, though with the caveat that other factors like the Bz polarity can't be predicted. Then tie that in to the 50's 60's weather reporting that there is uncertainty in prediction. And that satellites that measure solar wind closer to Earth can provide more reliable short term estimates of aurora probability on the order of an hour. But of course if you get too much into the nitty gritty detail, you might lose your audience!
