Popular Post LunarLights58
So I was observing a bit of green aurora along the horizon to my north, and then when I looked west, I see this thing. It was south of the main aurora and colorless/white, unlike the green aurora it accompanied. Edited December 21, 2023 by LunarLights58 4
Sunshine
If I'm not mistaken, this could be a STEVE - a Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement. But I let other, more knowledgeable people correct me.

LunarLights58
"SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR, AROUND the border between the U.S. and Canada, STEVEs take to the sky." Well uh, I am in North Dakota so maybe it is a STEVE. This was also during a G2 event

I remember KFYR on the bottom of our AM band. Really covered ND and parts of SD well back in the day…..Haha Edited December 21, 2023 by hamateur 1953 KFYR

It is always associated with an aurora and appears further south from where the aurora appears. With a longer exposure you may have captured more colour. I’m certain that is what you photographed. Solution LunarLights58 Posted December 21, 2023 Author Solution Share Posted December 21, 2023 So I took that photo and another one of the aurora that I had from the same night and tried to make it look like a panorama, but I had to fill in the gap. I guess it is STEVE. Cool. 1
