SDO image server not updating images

Since December 28th the SDO servers at NASA stopped updating solar imagery. As it isn’t resolved quickly, we made a dirty backup solution to provide at least some imagery. Only on the solar activity page and sunspot regions page we’ll be using some backup imagery. Be aware that it’s a fifty shades of grey and no colorised magnetogram.
Better than nothing 🤷‍♂️

There are Coloured magnetograms on JSOC page, idk if you can pull them though? Posted the link in another thread.

Yes but that would require to process the full 4K image and that crashes the automated processor as those files are too big. Thus we had to use some alternative “lighter” version.

Yes that makes sense! Thank you for explaining that.

i just checked the JSOC page and I see there are no new pictures for 7 hours (status red) do you maybe know why? I don’t see anything in sdo or JSOC / stanford news and can’t find any info on why there is no pictures being updated/processed

Or does it sometimes just happen ?

Ps: today is a holiday in the Us and the calendar states (no moc staffing + new years substitute) so maybe they’re just understaffed?

SDO main server is back up and is updating imagery again! We removed our dirty fallback code and as caches expire we'll be back to normal 🙂

For dates between December 29th and January 3rd we updated our archived sunspot and solar disk images (grey version) so that they are accurate again.

Fantastic! With that amazing farside eastern CME, I’m going to be watching the imagery very carefully soon!
