Philalethes
Any good reason why this is classified as beta rather than alpha? Seems like the latter to me.

The surrounding negative field has some rather negligible blips as far as I can tell, it looks quite unipolar to me; pretty much all alpha spots will tend to have a weak surrounding field of the opposite polarity. That's AR 13141; obviously a beta, but not the subject matter of this thread. I assume you misread, but in any case AR 13140 is the one to the top right of 13141, i.e. this one:
Newbie
Three spots were attributed to this AR obviously the positive polarity 'blue elephant' but there were two other tiny negative polarity spots which would have caused the Beta classification. Newbie
AR13140Â is now unipolar losing both of its small negative polarity spots. It's classification now reflects the change. N. Edited November 10, 2022 by Newbie

Still seems like a relatively boring region overall, not expecting much. Preparing to watch it and 13141 move past the limb and go back to watching Sol quietly prepare for the fireworks we are due.

Nocny Marek
Hi! Here's a live stream I did today on my channel. We have been observing AR 3140 for a long time. We observed a short C-class flare. https://youtu.be/F3rNvXT-5vc?t=3903
