Hey!

Can someone maybe tell me why Lasco isnt updating for over 24 hours now? Maybe some holidays or errors? Any insight would be cool.

Also no updates on Solar Flux Index, i dont know if it has anything to do with each other.

Hello Min I found this on LASCO/SOHO Homepage. It may explain the situation.

Why aren't there any LASCO data for the dates mm/dd/yy to mm/dd/yy ?

SOHO uses its thrusters every few months to maintain its orbit and pointing. The flight operations team has to prepare very carefully for these operations since there are many checks and much data analysis required to make sure the thrusters fired properly and the spacecraft attitude and systems are operating correctly before and after the thruster firing. It is not lightly rescheduled since the orbit and thruster calculations would need to be redone.

During that time LASCO and other SOHO instruments close their doors to prevent exhaust from the thrusters reaching their optics. We do calibration images (dark images , calibration lamp images or calibration opal ) or no image taking at all when our doors are closed. Thruster firings (somtimes noted as momentum management) are noted in the daily status reports and typically will take several days as the flight operations team analyzes the ranging data and does other measurements to make sure everything is okay.

EIT (Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope) does not close its door for thruster firing and usually continues taking images at a higher than normal cadence since LASCO is idle.

Opening and closing doors for momentum management is done by many of the SOHO instruments and in a strict sequence. We have to wait our turn to reopen our doors.

Thanks, turns out swpc just had issues and did not update the data

Thank you for the explanation. I was already becoming a bit concerned. Does anyone have an ETA when we may get new data again, or an URL for an alternative data source?

Kind regards,

S.

The data is fine. SWPC is just not updating it for whatever reason. :D

What particular information were you looking for Sunshine? The only image that hasn't been updated now is LASCO C2. SOHO puts this information out and perhaps this feed from SOHO hasn't come back online yet. Of interest is that  LASCO C3 is up and running and that is part of SOHO too.

SOHO stands for Solar and Heliospheric Observatory and is a satellite that studies the Sun 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruptions except when it's offline lol.

N.

During the times when SOHO is not operating the EIT as mentioned above is taking images more frequently to cover this shortcoming.
