Just a public notice for those unaware.  Wild Will was definitely a personal friend and passed away last year after a protracted illness.  That’s about all I feel comfortable sayin here. Mike/ Hagrid.

What I never noticed until just now is that @arjemma solved it to her credit.   I will never forget her finding that nanodelta in a mess of catbarf in a Northern Hemisphere region!!

I’m so sorry to hear that 😔 he is for sure missed ❤️

That was one of my shiniest moments haha

I'm reopening this topic after deliberation with the mod team. This is a fun topic with a lot of potential for people to learn from. Delta sunspots are an important feature in complex sunspot region a

  • It was suggested that I post the images of the delta of AR3213 that emerged on February 7 2023. This is how small they can be so it's a fairly good example.

To expand a bit on this in addition to what I mentioned above, I've made a transparent grid that anyone who wants to can use as an overlay to more easily see roughly how many degrees of separation the

Haha. We had never met physically. I was in the process of trying to arrange boarding for my catfromhell and was planning on driving straight through to Sugarland Tx when I learned of his death. It certainly sucked.  Guy had class imho. Mike.   We had much in common,  firearm knowledge etc. not parachuting haha. Bucket list,  maybe. Dunno.

Just commenting on this thread to bump it for the new people. I'd been lurking in the forum's for a while but never really learned to identify deltas or what to look for but the lovely @Ingolf and this thread here have helped me out a tonne.

May take a bit to get the hang of it but I'm keen to have a new hobby of trying to identify deltas

Ok my attempt, white is circled as I'm p sure of that one (one used to demonstrate/explain deltas to me earlier).

Red is the one I think is a delta but I am unsure of due to the angle. Unsure if they're in the same penumbra or it just appears that way due to angle.

I am only gonna comment here that you appear to be circling a delta within

3723 if I am correct?   The contested region being 3727 which at last check is trailing it and appears to have two polarities practically on top of each other.  Am I correct  @Sagatha

The red marked area is not a delta, the second Sunspot is missing. There is just one negative spot.

The blue positive area is close to the negative and it's "inside / under the same penumbra", but it's just an area and it doesn't form a Sunspot.

Made this "mistake" even yesterday and was corrected by @MinYoongi. Seems to be a common mistake.

Funny!!  @MinYoongi corrected me awhile back too! Over a similar misconception. I checked the magnetics I think, and found it to be correct. Plus it just sat there doing exactly what a delta shouldn’t.  🤣🤣
