Popular Post Sam Warfel
Not space weather, I know, but it's tangentially related. I met up with @Flareguy18last night to watch the total lunar eclipse, the darkest one since the early 90's! I enjoyed looking through his big telescope, and shot some photos of my own. Since there isn't a gallery section for non sun or aurora images (@Vancanneyt Sander could we consider adding one?), I'm posting them here. Maybe Flareguy will post some of his too! The partial eclipse begins The shadow grows Orange glow becomes visible Last light Totality, a very dim moon in a sea of stars 7
KW2P
I watched it visually and it was great. And we didn't have clouds. I've seen quite a few and yes, this was the darkest I've ever seen. Really nice.
Solarflaretracker200
I wish I had seen it. But it got cloudy right where it was going to happen, then clouded up completely 🤬. oh well I guess there is next time to try.

Popular Post Flareguy18
I do in fact have some photos to share! Thanks for hanging out with me @Orneno I showed up right around the start time of the penumbral phase of the eclipse. For the first 10-15 mins, the moon was behind some clouds, but it rose above it and then the rest of the cloud cover essentially cleared for the remainder of the time. It was awesome, especially considering the forecast was a bit questionable. I took all my photos through a massive 10-inch reflector telescope (so all the images are actually flipped because of that). Hope you all enjoy! Here is the penumbral phase. You'll notice the moon doesn't look very changed during this phase. About halfway through the partial phase. This was just before totality began. The moon started taking on the classic orange-red color with a bright rim. Here is one of my favorite shots during totality. The moon was very dark reddish orange. The deepest red is the portion of the moon closest to the center of Earth's shadow. Took this as totality was ending. Moon was still red in color, but beginning to brighten. And just to show you how massive my telescope is! (I think Orneno said it looks like a cannon LOL) Edited May 17, 2022 by Flareguy18 4

Calder
I wish I could’ve seen it, but it was raining where I’m at. I’ve got a telescope just like yours! @Flareguy18 Except it’s the 8 inch version. Even though this isn’t during the eclipse, here’s a cool photo I took of the moon.
