Linkinmark5
Thinking of skiing in Boyne, MI. Thinking of taking an evening in Mackinaw City, MI on New Years Eve and attempt to stop to view northern lights. Can anyone tell me probability of any Northern lights viewing? From what I read here I know its difficult to predict, however I dont know where to begin. Would anyone please help to lend a clue on where to begin? Thanks for any suggestions. Happy New Year and stay safe.
Vancanneyt Sander
For Michigan a Kp onder of 6 is required so that's only possible when a bigger CME hits and that's not the case. As Michigan is a middle latitude location, consult our help section and read 'When can we see the aurora at Middle latitudes?'. Our help section also offers a lot of extra reading to learn more about it.
Dodekaedron
Actually for the area he is questioning it's a higher latitude and its possible to view then at KP 4 with luck, but a KP 5 definitely brings them out in that area. Its one of the areas you can view them regularly year round even in summer
