Northern lights are often seen in a wide variety of phenomena, some of which are extremely rare. One of the rarest of these is the fence, where very narrow rays form a broad wall that is reminiscent of a fence. This image of this phenomenon is one of the clearest and widest fence shapes ever recorded by the northern camera of the Tampere Ursa Observatory. Of particular interest is the lower edge of that fence, which appears to form the teeth of a saw blade.

The picture was taken on a night when the northern lights were very active. A video of the night's most active moments can be seen on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGzh4gF463o
