This Gizmodo article reveals that SWORM (Space Weather Operations, Research, and Mitigation task force) as well as NOAA have recently conducted an exercise to see how prepared the U.S. is for a major solar event. Sensationalism aside, this is an interesting read on the results of that exercise.

Looking at the results themselves it states that the excercise revolved around a simulation of a G4+ and they got a G5 (the largest event in 20 years) right the day after the excercise concluded, and the worst it did was knock out some satellites and mess with GPS iirc. I dont have time to look through the rest of the report, but based on that I can pretty confidently say that they have a solid 10+ years before the next solar maximum, to run more simulations.

Tl;dr nothing worrying
