@Samrau

Just wanted to give you an update. I'm at a point where I can take a break from house repairs. I started working on the stackplots for the video last night and I'm almost done with 1 of them. I'll add it to your video and post a test image here to see what your thoughts are and to see what it looks like on mobile.

..... I have a question - and I hope it's just me being dumb and y'all having it under control --

but, since the data is coming from the satellite(s) and there is a delay on the effects on the earth of [X] amount of time, which varies depending on the wind speed --

how do you adjust that between the Aurora video and the data, since it varies continuously?

The goal is to show the data change and the corresponding effect to Auroras (right, right??).

And yes you can tell me I'm pulling a blonde again 😁

You have the right thoughts. The main graph is the magnetometer reading on the ground, it is precisely timed. The space observatory readings are a little more complicated. But based on the speed of the solar wind, you can pretty accurately determine the time of impact on the earth.

I think the @Parabolic is up to the task 😀

@Samrau Sorry I haven't given you any updates for a few weeks. A few things happened after easter that took up a lot of time and energy so I haven't been able to work on it very much at all, let alone enjoy solar activity and space weather. I still intend on completing it as I've already finished editing a couple magnetometers for the video. All that's really left to do is syncing the moving progression bar with the time-lapse itself.

Hey! You don't owe me. I've got a lot on my plate myself.

@Samrau Hey, I have a rough edit finished for you to check out. How would you like to receive the video file?

If it's still a draft, a link to Google Drive would be acceptable. Or upload it to your YouTube channel.

@Samrau Here's the video so far. I haven't synced the graph to the video yet but that shouldn't take too much work. I was thinking of adding a different component to the 360 view as well. I didn't feel like I should stretch the graph completely across the screen. Although since I managed to remove the background and changed the colors of the graph pretty well I feel like I could stretch it a bit closer to the center. I feel pretty confident in the outcome so far.

You certainly did a good job. Bravo! If possible, cut out the All-Sky recording from the video, and the graphics can be stretched to the full screen, it would be more informative.

I can't believe it, you did it almost perfectly! hugs 🤗

Life on a parabola! - forever!

@Samrau Since I've been able to finish a lot of house work last week I decided today I'll be working on the next magnetometer plot and then syncing the time-line bar. I plan on having the rest of the video finished in a few days.

I'm already down and out of hope of seeing your video 😔

I had fewer interruptions than expected and just now started rendering a finished video. Encoder estimates around an hour for it to finish then I'll upload to youtube for you. I believe I was able to get the timeline accurate within 5-10 minutes, although wasn't able to stretch the magnetometers any further horizontally without the data becoming too oblonged. I'll tag you when its uploaded.

The time shown in the video is +5 hours UTC. I.e. the start time according to the video should be 16:45UTC on April 16, the end time 21:39UTC on April 16

I'm confused. +5 would put the start time at 02:39 04/17.

I wish they taught these things in school where I live because I took your words too literally. I looked up what you meant and it says to subtract 5 hours from UTC. I will change the magnetometers today. @Samrau

Nooo 😄 +5UTC,

I'd live near you if it was -5UTC and visit you

I'm sorry for making a silly mistake 😅 Replacing the magnetometers won't take me very long. At this point I've learned how to streamline the whole process, so it will only take me a few hours to fix. I'm embarrassed that I had so much confidence in the finished product haha.

A few hours? That's an unnecessary waste of time, maybe we shouldn't do it then.

I need to learn how to edit too. So you've been using Premiere Pro?

But I definitely don't want to spend hours on it at a time, it's not an efficient waste of time.

Yes, although I'm thinking about switching to a different program as premiere pro doesn't feel very well optimized for the price. But I'm not using high end hardware either (12G, 3.6Ghz, 7th gen i5, 1TB HDD) and I've already grown familiar with it's interface so I'm reluctant to switch. My advice would be to try out a few of the most popular ones (including Premiere Pro) and see how well they run on your system. One bonus feature of PP is that it comes with a separate encoder as well.

ahahahaha, I actually have a 1st gen add-on on a rare 1156 socket from 2009. i7-870, 2.93GHz, 16Gb. I can't imagine 1TB, I have HDD\SSD 8TB +4TB on external storage and I already don't have enough of it. I don't use cloud storage because of principle. I am already starting to have difficulties with some programs, I think with Premiere Pro it will be about a few hours. But video games are still manageable XD.

Okay, I'll try to look for that program, thx!

I saw an old kinescope TV in @hamateur 1953 foto, we're in a rarities club.

@Samrau - look into DaVinci Resolve while you're at it, at least what system requirements it has. The free version could WELL do what you want here, absolutely, and it's a fantastic software. You don't lose a thing trying it out.
