There's a new sunspot group on the far side, and one M3 gave out yesterday.

Been slowly making a simple NE limb video and finally decided to finish it last night as JSOC will be down for 6 hours for maintenance to fix data gaps.

Here's the disappointment that is 4079 cresting the east limb of the Farside. I doubt it will grow larger on the Farside or gain complexity again or decay however I would like to be wrong it may have been a disappointment, but it is for sure a long-lasting sunspot region, been here since April 9th, the 3rd rotation of this region should be interesting.

For absolutely no other reason than to be hopeful and contrarian, I'm gonna say this is going to be a mega-awesome AR, with lots of M's and even some X's, Eruptive ones, not those lame caged and impulsive ones other ARs have produced.

I just ran the 48 hr SDO 131Γ… movie and am optimistic about reasonable activity in the NH for next week. Nothing especially exciting quite yet, but hoping. That was almost too quick! Haha. M flare already! 😊

I will be taking full credit that my hope and contrarianism cause this AR to be this good.

In all seriousness it is good to hear more hope for others behind it

I’m in full agreement with Solarham on this. It seems we have yet another decent AR coming in behind 14087. Very encouraging, especially now. 😊

Definitely, it produced a gorgeous looking M1.2+ flare 30 minutes before 4087 gave us the X2.4, on the site it's attributed to 4087.

Edit: ops, I basically just repeated what was said on Solarham. Guess I agree πŸ˜†

Ops

Well there's old AR 4079 on Solar Orbiter imagery, looks like it will survive another rotation.

Question is, has it learned anything yet? Or will it only produce non-productive events? 🀣

I think it put out another mid range M flare last week but it didn't seem eruptive at all. It'll probably release another flare right on the limb for the second time haha.

I just ran the 48 hr 131Γ… to view the incoming limb activity and it appears that we have at least two new regions due to arrive in two or three days. The NH one seems to be a bit more active presently and hopefully is beginning a growth stage.

I'm very curious about that one, seen a lot of activity but looked uninteresting on PHI.

Might be seeing small hints of 4079 fragmenting, hopefully that's not the case.

Must be Rapidly developing on the east limb.

Check Solar Orbiter imagery out, it tried to form near central meridian but again quickly fell apart

Boo hoo. If it’s 4079 this is to be expected. But too early for it, isn’t it?

What region are you talking about? If it's old 4079, it doesn't look like anything changed.

Looks like it formed from the remains of 4078. 4079 is returning only in a week or so

That AR should've only made it passed the central meridian on the farside over the weekend.

Seriously, look at the magnetic lines in the center, they don't just arc, they have a reverse curve.

It looks like there's a filament just below the glow that's causing the arcs . Could be something to do with that possibly .

Fliamnet and curved arcs.jpg

/ Edit edited in image and to further say looks spectacular looks something like the filament is causing a ' shadow ' in the usual glow of the spot , can't be entirely sure though , might be other things going on as well.
