Have ya'll seen this cme yet? Pretty impressive halo. Does anyone know what region caused it ?

I'm thinking it may be far side because there were no earth side flares at this time (there was an m flare around 1930utc but that was probably after this cme launched) @Jesterface23

Here's another look - you have to wait til about 18 UTC because this video shows all cme's that day.

Slow it down and even in the lasco image you can see the screen dim and 2 large streaks flash across before the cme erupts and the entire disc glows !

There was a filament eruption off the southeastern limb. Then region 3753 probably released the eastern disk ejecta.

Awesome ! Thank you for the info !!

apparently the eruptions cause a total blackout on the sdo view for like an hour ?

you can move the cursor to around 18 UTC or earlier

SDO probably had a planned calibration given the up, down, left, right.

Okay good to know ! Their timing stinks because we can't see what happens on the disc at that time lol!

The CME does look very intense, is it Earth-directed?

Thanks!

There is no Earth-directed component. It is pretty much an illusion made by more than one CME.

Technically, CMEs could go under either. It just depends on what the circumstances are.

Ok thanks for clarifying! I just saw that any CME topics go under Geomagnetic Activity in the rules.

No worries if they can go under both, just ignore what I said and continue with your lovely day ☀️
