I may show some ignorance here, but who would be surprised. I noticed there’s currently a dip in TSI, and back during the solar storms of May, there was a dramatic spike down. I would have thought it would go in the other direction. What causes the TSI to spike down during dramatic solar activity.

Thanks, Jester I will study that this afternoon. Try and reduce my ignorance.

Large sunspot regions can cause a dip in TSI. I think AR 3664 might have been the culprit in May.

If you haven’t read this brief article it may be helpful to you.  It seems a bit ironic but the emission wavelengths change.  I remember reading that during Solar max of cycle 19 the visible spectrum dropped appreciably. A photograph of Solar max near that time looked really strange.  Like a golf ball with two stripes of black around the Sun’s equator!  Haha. See ya. Mike.

In my noggin I had "intensity" rather than "irradiance."
