hi my name is Ash and i live in the United Kingdom.    I'm new to the sun and someone suggested i look at spaceweatherlive to know about whats going on with the sun.  I don't understand the homepage where it shows the sun and numbers everywhere on the sun.  Could  you explain to me please what it all means and where i learn what things mean?      It shows information saying  Today,'s Sun , sunspot number 120, new regions and things,   I'm interested in knowing current information like how many sunspots have been found, how to understand what sunspots are and how many flares have been fired out.

Howdy Ash.  Well you have quite a few questions obviously there!  Basically the numbers you see on the sun are the Active Regions. They are assigned by SWPC. Space Weather Prediction Center when they meet specific criteria.  Typically they have to have been visible for a day I think to qualify. There are many subgroups etc to be assigned along with them.  My advice would be to look around this site, and check the index and you can probably learn a lot just from this.  We are all in the process of learning from each other here and you will find a lot to interest you especially if you love the Auroral displays we all wait for!  See ya.  Mike. Edit. I should add here that I am only a member and have been for a couple of years and really enjoy the interaction and humour here. You may need a sense of humour when it seems the sun is conspiring against our wishes for auroral displays! 🤣

Welcome Ash! I suggest you read the help section. It is full of information for someone new to this topic and will answer most of the questions you have.
