We have been discussing F10.7 for a looong time and the above link is pretty good.  It might be too technical for some but I am sure someone will step up.  Written by a respected researcher that I have known about for some time.  Mike

I have been keeping an eye on those excellent measurements for some fifty years  now.      Time station WWV probably still broadcasts  them daily.
@Philalethes  has called them robust and I am pretty sure most Hams would agree    As far as day to day conditions they do not show an immediate effect on our F or E layers unless very high   Geomagnetics messes with us differently too   Hopefully this short pdf by Tapping clears up any vagueness about them   One other thing   In winter due to shorter hours in the northern hemisphere the measurements narrow to 18:00 20:00 and 22:00    UTC.   There is typically a short delay of about 3 or 4 minutes before the raw data is available   Cool stuff  Mike

@StargazingHippy also forwarded a basic introduction which frankly I have never read.  Thanks SGH.   Mike 🐈‍⬛
