I hope it develops and gives us something big A little impulsive M2 flare from this region. Nothing big, but shows that there is life in this region
Popular Post WhereingtonEvent
As AR-3780 gradually rotates into view, The feeling is reminiscent of the electrifying thrill experienced during a wrestling pay-per-view, when the audience hears the iconic tolling bell of The Undertaker's entrance, perfectly capturing the climactic moment as the sunspot emerges. 1
SamDieGurke
Finally a sign of life, very small and impulsive M2.22 from this region. At least something...
Miles
Looks like there’s more turning the limb now too!

Yani
There looks to be a lot of white around this area. The magnetic area looks big but in terms of actual sunspot size Im not sure if its on the upswing or downswing
Miles
Truly massive region. More turning the limb now!

By looking at the tiny sliver it appears to have a negative polarity, but it’s hard to be certain at this point. The region might be more complex than it appears. Its just not as noticeable unless you're viewing 1700/1600 aia.

Yani
Is this all going to be considered one region or is it going to be like the 3765 3766 3767 3778 complex?

It looks like most of what we currently see should be one AR. I don't remember every criteria NOAA and USAF use to determine if an AR should be grouped or separate, but it seems to be within a single boundary line at least. We'll for sure know the extent of this region in 12-24hr's though.
Popular Post Philalethes
I looked back in the archive to see if this region had its roots in previous ones, and it looks like there's been activity around that area for the past few rotations. From what I can tell it corresponds fairly well to what were ARs 3685, 3713 (which developed not far from the much more interesting 3712), and 3743; the longitudes are close to what's to be expected: The expected drift at that latitude (around 12°) is ~10°/rotation (I get 10.55°/rotation using the values listed here), which is close, but it seems to me the actual drift here is closer to ~7°/rotation, especially considering that this one is still having its longitude adjusted down as more of it is revealed (we can see more on the limb now); I suspect this is because active regions don't necessarily follow the exact same rotation rate as is expected from more superficial features, but I'm not entirely sure about this. The latitudes also match up reasonably well: 3743 being a bit wonky in both long. and lat. is likely because it was part of a cluster of four ARs, which can mess up the automatic tracking a bit; the latitude listed on SWL is around 10°. Using 3gMike's approach of lining up the images, in this case using a period corresponding to the aforementioned drift of 7°/rotation (24.9 days), we see that the previous three regions line up very well: These are also cropped from the exact same part of the magnetograms, so it's clear that the latitudes match quite well there too. Will be interesting to see how well this region fits in when we get a closer view of it.

Popular Post Saturnitis
Quickly everyone, stop talking about this group! We all know what happens when we give the sun too much attention, and we definitely don’t want to risk getting nothing from this region 😂 1

Adohran
I still have to spot a delta on this region. Has anyone seen one yet or doesn't it have one. Would be surprising if it produced such high flares without a delta.
