What caused Kp8 on June 28th?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking back at archived data for June 2024 and can't quite seem to figure out why there was a G4/kp8 on June 28th... or enough to cause Bz magnetic field anomaly to reach -20nT briefly? Was there a series of filaments, flares or coronal holes I missed?

We were in a CH CIR/HSS transition period when the Bz was around -15nT after a CH SIR shock arrival. There was no shock arrival at STEREO A, so it didn't look to be CME related.

I do think there was a filament erupted cme that grazed us as well that added to the mix.

That was the assessment I heard from Tamitha Skov's video on the subject from what I remember.

She keeps up to date on what is going on, but I guess I have no idea on how much analysis she does on events.

The problem sits at STEREO A being in line to take a better impact from the filament eruption CME, and it never did arrive there.

SA is about 1 Carrington rotation day ahead of us, and it just so happens about a day after the SIR impacted L1, it impacted SA. The shock at SA wasn't as crisp, so it may have been in the process of turning into a normal CIR.

True and I respect your take on it a lot!
