Philalethes
I've noticed a few times now that posts that were never visible to me suddenly appear as having been posted earlier; e.g. in this thread I was the only person to have responded to OP (I had opened the thread a few times since writing my post, and on the homepage it also displayed as having only two posts), but then suddenly this post appeared out of nowhere as having been posted before mine. Some shenanigans with the timestamps of the posts based on timezones, perhaps? Doesn't affect anything at all or bother me, just thought I'd let you know since I've seen it a few times now; I suspect it's a minor bug of some sort. Solution Vancanneyt Sander Posted June 3 Solution Share Posted June 3 Not a bug a new user posted a reply, when new users post their first message needs manual approval to prevent spammers and abusers. That’s why you’ll see that message when it’s approved
cgrant26
Yep. My first post was commenting on the aurora we were getting during that G4 storm in April. It didn't become visible to anyone until 2 days after. 😄 1
Sunshine
Puzzling but worth it, I believe.

Just kidding Samuel, we love you But yeah it's just that we sometimes need to manually approve posts which we try to do as soon as possible of course. 🙂

Usually I am much faster than that. However, I do sometimes go on vacations, or when there are massive aurora events like that one, I am out chasing and analyzing data like the rest of you, and not able to keep up with the highly increased forum traffic. But yes, usually, no one should have to wait two days. I do suggest making your first post in a non-time-sensitive context, to avoid any potential frustration. I had a similar experience when I first joined the forums
cgrant26
🙂 Sorry, wasn't trying to get anyone called out. I'd been lurking on this forum for a few months and during the storm created an account just to post in the aurora thread without realizing initial posts were hidden for moderation. It wasn't a big deal at all, it just made me chuckle when I finally saw it got approved 2 days later because I knew very well that everyone here who could was out watching the show as excitedly as I was. I have a 7 year old daughter who had never seen the Northern Lights so I started getting into this to try and be more ready to get her out to see it when they were going on. I ended up sticking around for the great science and tech contributed by the tools and people here. I really appreciate the work people on this site put in and wish I would have found it long before I did. Edited June 7 by cgrant26
Marcel de Bont
@cgrant26 Thanks for the kind words. I was not calling out @Sam Warfel he is a very highly appreciated member of the staff. I think he missed the small letters in my post.
