Because it’s only updated once per day and doesn’t change when new regions get assigned during the day
Solution Marcel de Bont Posted October 19, 2021 Solution Share Posted October 19, 2021 This sunspot region is in the Solar Region Summary (SRS) issued at 0030 UTC so I think todays sunspot number should indeed be 11. This is not a region that got assigned during the day. It either hasn't updated on our website yet for some reason or the data in the file we fetch from NOAA is incorrect. 1
Vancanneyt Sander
To clarify, SWPC updated the sunspot number at 20:25 UTC on October 17th, before the sunspot region 2866 was assigned. It wasn't updated yesterday (October 18th) so likely SWPC forgot to update it.
