GregXRT
As far as i know the Bastille Day CME travelled as far as the voyager probes were in late 2000/early 2001, does anyone have other events that have made it farther? Marcel de Bont
Every CME makes it (with the ambient solar wind) to the heliopause. The heliopause is where the solar wind is stopped by the interstellar medium. This is the region where the solar wind's strength is no longer great enough to push back the stellar winds of the surrounding stars. I guess the Bastille Day event was strong enough to pick it out of the ambient solar wind despite being so incredibly far away from the Sun. My guess is that weaker CMEs just can not be picked out of the ambient solar wind that far out.
