farm24
i was looking at the HMI Magnetogram AIA 171 images and saw this weird band of lighter color that goes all the way across the disk in between sunspots 2872 and 2871 why is this? Archmonoth
Ill take a guess. It is the equator, and it spins faster than the northern and southern hemispheres. A similar band can be seen on Jupiter too. The equator is equalized and more magnetically homogenous. I am not an expert, just an enthusiast taking a guess. What do you think it is? Jesterface23
It might be related to a mix of a filament launch along with the CH beside it, facing us.

What do you think it is? but im not sure if its the equator because it dips when it passes spot 2873 it could be related to the coronal hole but im going to look at the different images to try and figure it out 12 hours ago, Jesterface23 said: It might be related to a mix of a filament launch along with the CH beside it, facing us. idk im going to look at the different images to look for patterns to maybe figure it out
