MinYoongi
Hey! Noaa predicts a full hit on 23. Feb. of a CME that originated in a Filament Eruption Can someone tell me more about Filament Eruptions? Also, will Aurora be visible in Mid Latitudes? Jesterface23
I wouldn't really expect much with its impact on Earth. In the imagery the CME went full halo just by a tiny bit, so even if it manages to make it to Earth it will be a far side impact. STEREO A might get a good hit though for data. Vancanneyt Sander
Filaments are a common feature on the Sun, these are clouds of solar material above the Suns surface due to magnetic forces. These filaments can break loose sometimes unleashing a coronal mass ejection. At most a glancing blow is expected and surely not a direct hit. Upper mid-latitudes might have some chances but nothing major.
MinYoongi
Ah, nice. I never really got what Filaments really are. Ah shucks, i hoped for some Aurora Shots because Dr.Tamitha Skov talked about a "Direct Hit" but it looks like the Bulk will miss us. Thankies! Marcel de Bont
Indeed this should only be a glancing blow at most. Even G1 conditions seem like a bit of a stretch but who knows... I will post a news article soon I hadn't had time to make one yet! Keep your eyes open for it later tonight.
